Work continues towards making Azul an unparalleled community in Northern Nicaragua. The Azul development offers lots (or blocks) of land for sale and boasts a restaurant, pool, laundromat, yoga platform, yoga retreat, park, paved gated entrance and 24 hour security.

Achievements February 2017:

  • All infrastructure was completed months ago at azul so we are now in a phase of maintenance and streamlining the community.
  • Stefan’s Pasta La Vista restaurant opens for breakfast on the weekends.
  • The yoga platform gets regular use with instructor Christine (read her bio under the yoga tab) taking private classes.

Achievements January 2017:

  • House and casita for the Mancini is completed. Karl and his wife Jessica move into azul ready to enjoy early retirement.
  • Stefan’s Pasta La Vista restaurant expands to add ‘Kiss Me’ gourmet ice-cream.
  • Bill and Rachel return to azul to see the advancement of their house on Lot 19. Delighted with the progress, design and quality of finish they plan their exit strategy from the usa.

Achievements December 2016:

  • Only the painting remains to complete the house and casita for Lote 11. Six and a half months from start to finish.
  • Stefan’s Pasta La Vista restaurant organises popular festive season activities.
  • Vanities and kitchen started on the house on Lot 19.
  • Laundromat extends it hours due to popular demand.

Achievements November 2016:

  • Sponsoring Nica vets for the second year who attended azul for the weekend vaccinating 126 dogs and cats and spay/neutering 62. As well as treating 12 horses and castrating one horse under anaesthetic. Thank you to Nica Vets, donors, volunteers and all those from the local community who waited patiently with their dogs/cats/horses.
  • Doors and windows installed in the house and casita for Lote 11.
  • Second story of the day spa completed on lote 2A.
  • Roof started on the house on Lot 19.
  • Marling and Marvin become small business owners opening up an independent laundromat in the azul security casa. Starting on a part-time basis Marling has a large washing machine and clothes line to assist people with laundry needs.

Achievements October 2016:

  • Carpenters start on the house and casita for Lote 11. Doors and windows prepared.
  • Roof completed on the surf shop on lote 2A. Second story of the day spa has also started on lote 2A.
  • All external and internal walls completed on the house on Lot 19.
  • Landscaping around the yoga platform completed with parking and herb garden.
  • Mulching around the fruit trees in the park to prepare for the dry season.
  • 40 more plants in the earth at azul, mostly cuttings from our original gardens near the restaurant.
  • All rain water catchment tanks (90,000 litres) are full to the brim as we move forward into the dry season.

Achievements September 2016:

  • Rendering completed on the house and casista for Lote 11. The fit out begins.
  • Construction starts on lote 2A for Adonis and Yami. Building a day spa and shop front for tours and activities in the area.
  • First aid and defence tactics continue to be taught to the security team and gardeners.
  • 4 weeks into the construction on Lot 19, a house for Bill and Rachel.
  • Final electrical meters installed and underground electrical lines completed for the remaining lots.
  • 640 more plants and trees in azul with a total of 1790 plants in the azul development this rainy season.

Achievements August 2016:

  • Now 11 weeks into the construction of a house and casita for Karl on lote 11. On schedule with the second floor completed.
  • First aid and defence tactics continue to be taught to the security team and gardeners.
  • Construction begins on Lot 19, building a house for Bill and Rachel’s early retirement.
  • More gardens created with 500 more plants and trees in the earth.
  • Pasta la Vista hosts popular movie nights for everyone.

Achievements July 2016:

  • Now 7 weeks into the construction of a house and casita for Karl on lote 11.
  • First aid and defence tactics continue to be taught to the security team and gardeners.
  • Stefan changes the name of the restaurant to ‘Pasta La Vista’ with a new menu and interior design changes.

Achievements June 2016:

  • Commence construction on a house and casita for Karl on lote 11.
  • First aid taught to the security team and gardeners.
  • Open and closed hand defence tactics taught to the security team.
  • Stefan makes the restaurant the ‘new place to be’ with drink specials and parties

Achievements May 2016:

  • Last two wells equipped with submersible pumps, completed permanent water pipes to each lot completed with boxed in meter readers. Only the tidy up remains.
  • Water catchment areas completed.
  • Extensions completed to the restaurant with another lounge area closer to the pool and a cobblestone entrance at the rear of the restaurant.
  • Stefan takes on leasing the restaurant for a year with big plans for functions, events and a change in menu (but keeping the favourites!)
  • Three massage practitioners complete their training hours and offer introductory massage at Azul.
  • Over 650 more plants added to the azul development in common areas, restaurant, yoga platform and owners lots.

Achievements April 2016:

  • Ordered and delivered: 12x 10,000 litre tanks for the catchment of rainwater. Preparing for the rainy season.
  • Extensions commenced to the restaurant with another lounge area closer to the pool and a cobblestone entrance at the rear of the restaurant.
  • Canadian deep tissue massage therapist Bree Lillies teaches an introductory massage course to azul employees on the yoga platform. Co-ordinated and sponsored by Azul.
  • The next stage of planting begins around the restaurant, park and yoga platform

Achievements March 2016:

  • 5.5 months after commencing construction of the Gracious Living Lifestyle Home on Lot 14 the house is completed and Grace Van BerKum moves in.
  • Commence design and architectural plans for Lot 17.
  • Complete architectural plans for a house on lot 11.
  • Add design features to the Yoga Platform
  • The Azul restaurant and pool treasures a consistent booking of functions and celebrations as well as adding massage and pedicures to the list of services that we offer.

  • Ordering of pavers (cobblestones) for the entrance which unfortunately will take one month to arrive
  • Two weeks’ vacation for all construction workers
  • Continuing with construction septic tank and restaurant bathrooms
  • Ordering 400 vaccinations for the dogs and cats coming to see Nica Vets at the end of August

Achievements June 2015:

  • Commencement of the entrance way to Azul and road side drainage
  • Marking of lots and blocks of land for sale with small signs indicating lots numbers

Achievements May 2015:

  • Azul the restaurant has been completed structurally
  • The first of two gardens have been planted
  • Azul employees have gone to all of the nearby villages to let people know about the visit from Nica Vets. The response has been overwhelming with over 175 people signing up for their dogs and cats to receive the services provided.
  • The recycling rubbish centre continues to gather momentum and the Azul team now transports recyclable plastics every fortnight to the centre in Chinandega.

Achievements April 2015:

  • Azul sponsoring Nica Vets to come to the area in late August 2015. This team of vets will conduct vaccinations, spay, neutering and health checks to dogs and cats in this region. This is a much needed service and Azul is proud to fund and support care for animals in need.
  • The viewing platform has had quite a workout as interest is beginning to generate on the lots and blocks of land for sale. Check it out here

Achievements March 2015:

  • Purchase of washing machines for Azul laundromat at entrance way.
  • Fit out of Azul general store and shop at entrance way begins.
  • First load of recycle rubbish transported to Managua.
  • Commence purchases for fit out of restaurant.

Achievements Feburary 2015:

  • Completion of Azul Road.
  • Construction of restaurant continues.
  • The Azul construction team were also contracted to design, manage and build a house on a beach front property in Santa Maria. This three bedroom 3 bathroom separate structured house was started in February 2015 with an expected finish in late May. This, like the other houses designed, constructed and managed by Azul, will be available for holiday and long term rent. Click the rental tab for more information.​

Achievements Janurary 2015:

  • Commence construction of restaurant on lot or block 1 (see the master plan) with proposed opening in the beginning of November 2015.
  • Commenced construction on public bathrooms and outdoor shower, also on lot or block one.
  • Completion of security casa at entrance..
  • Commencement of Azul Roads with a minimal impact to the ocean views from all of the lots or blocks of land for sale.

Achievements December 2014:

  • 24 hour security in place.
  • Commenced construction of security Casa at entrance.
  • Completed the Recycle Rubbish plan.
  • Three wells (posos) drilled and restaurant poso pump and bodega completed.
  • Employee uniforms supplied.
  • Cook employed to prepare nutritious lunches for the construction and security teams.
  • Marking of lots and blocks of land for sale.
  • Viewing platform constructed and placed on lot 17.
  • Purchasing of 2056 various plants from a local village. Plants include cacao, mango, avocado, coconut, sapote and lime.Three months prior a local village was approached to source Azul with plants at a range of prices. Equipment and materials supplied by Azul.

Since the purchase of the property in late October 2014 construction of this eco development begun immediately. Dividing the 8.7 manzanas into 18 large lots or blocks of land for sale was the first task. Time, care and many walks the land enabled careful planning on how to divide the Azul community into expansive lots or blocks whilst keeping and working with the natural contours and slope of the land. Even though the lots or blocks of land that are for sale are all over half an acre, ample space is left for wide roads, park and green belts between the lots or blocks of land.
